Mission & Vision

Our Mission

Our mission is to support the advancement and implementation of public health initiatives that promote the health and well-being of Black, Brown and Indigenous women and their children in the United States.

We focus on mitigating the effects and reducing the occurrences of adverse childhood experiences; closing the gap in health disparities; and improving maternal health outcomes.

Our Vision

MACE employs an equity-centered public health lens in its evaluation of all work that impacts the health of women of color.  MACE’s definition of public health coincides with that of the Centers for Disease Control:  "Public health is the science and art of preventing disease, prolonging life, and promoting health through the organized efforts and informed choices of society, organizations, public and private communities, and individuals.”

MACE believes that by actively promoting awareness, prevention, intervention and collaborative community building through the implementation of targeted dialogue, research, education, training and development, our society can markedly improve its delivery of health care and essential services to Black women and other women of color.

MACE believes in following the public health definition of safe, stable and nurturing relationships for children.  A major focus of MACE is to decrease the neurodevelopmental disruptions, clearly cited by research, when adversities exist. As such, MACE seeks out individuals and agencies that are focused on addressing the higher-than-average rates of maternal mortality; exposure to violence; substance misuse; overrepresentation of chronic diseases; increased incidents of developmental disabilities in offspring; and decreasing life expectancy within the Black, Brown and Indigenous female populations.
